This question was addressed to me in an interview for job.

The doubt is from Properties of Convolution Codes and Reed-Solomon Codes in chapter Channel Coding of Digital Communications

The correct option is (b) Soft decision decoder

To explain: The soft decision algorithm has limited resolution than hard decision algorithm and thus it cannot use hamming distance metric.
