What is used in engines to reduce the noise at the exhaust?

My question is based upon Lubrication System, Intake and Exhaust Systems in portion Diesel Engine Plant of Energy Engineering

The correct option is (c) Silencers

The best explanation: Engine sound during operation may be transmitted back through the air intake systems to the outside air. In such cases a silencer is provided between the engine and the intake. It is a light weight steel pipe.
