To elaborate: The equation x^2 + y^2 = 1 gives a circle; if the x^2 and y^2 have same co-efficient then the equation gives circles. The equation x^2= 1ay gives a parabola. The equation y^2 + x^2/b^2 = 1 gives an ellipse.
