Why is sulfur in pig iron kept low?

(a) Steel impurity

(b) Electrical resistivity

This question was addressed to me by my college professor while I was bunking the class.

Correct answer is (a) Steel impurity

The best explanation: Basic pig iron must be low in sulfur of about 0.04%. This is since sulfur is an active impurity in steels and is not eliminated in refining furnaces.
