What is the hardness of measuring jaws of vernier height gauge made up of stainless steel?

(a) 350 HV

(b) 450 HV

(c) 550 HV

(d) 650 HV

This question was posed to me by my college director while I was bunking the class.

My question is taken from Vernier Height Gauges topic in chapter Linear Measurements of Engineering Metrology

Correct option is (d) 650 HV

For explanation: The measuring jaws, scriber and underside of a base are made up of good quality steel and high carbon stainless steel. Hardness of these parts is about 700 and 650 HV for good quality steel and stainless steel respectively.
