The correct answer is (b) It will try to bend

To explain I would say: If axial play is not allowed, it would try to bend. Thus there will be no adverse effect of axial play if the direction of cutting forces remains constant or same. If this direction of cutting force changes, there would be some error introduced due to axial movement of spindle.
