This question was addressed to me in an interview for internship.

I would like to ask this question from Introduction and Applications of Laser topic in section Laser of Engineering Physics II

Correct answer is (c) Quanta of sound waves

For explanation I would say: Phonons are the quanta of sound waves. When energy is provided, the lattice absorbs energy and gets excited to a higher state. When it de-excites to ground state, it releases radiation in sound-wave region, known as phonons.
