I had been asked this question in unit test.

My doubt is from PWM Inverters-2 in division Inverters of Power Electronics

Right option is (a) reference, carrier

For explanation I would say: To generate the modulated waves of equal width, square wave which is the reference signal is compared with the triangular wave which is the carrier signal wave.
