To explain I would say: Equivalent impedance = (5 + j3) || (5 – √3)

= \(\frac{(5+j3)×(5 – \sqrt{3})}{(5+j3) + (5 – \sqrt{3})} \)

= \(\frac{25+9}{10}\) = 3.4 Ω

VAB = Current × Impedance

= 5∠30° × 3.4

= 17∠30°.
