In older analytical methods, which of the following methods were used to allow movement of the mobile phase?

(b) Pressure

(c) Gravity

(d) Blowing air into the column

This question was posed to me in a job interview.

My question is taken from Operation of Chromatography in chapter Chromatography of Analytical Instrumentation

The correct answer is (c) Gravity

The best I can explain: In older analytical methods, gravity facilitated the movement of the mobile phase. The effect of capillary action was also employed to allow movement.
