How is the amount of cooling required by the steam power plant determined?

(a) By the capacity of plant

(b) By the amount of exhausted gas

(c) By its thermal efficiency

(d) By the type of fuel used (coal or uranium)

Correct choice is (c) By its thermal efficiency

To explain: The amount of cooling required by the steam power plant is determined by its thermal efficiency. It has nothing to do whether it is fueled by coal or uranium; neither has it depended on the type of power plant (nuclear, thermal or hydel). Nuclear power plants have lower thermal efficiency than thermal plants. Higher the thermal plants lower the water usage for cooling.
