In preparing a plain scale of feet and inches, how many sub-divisions do the first division is to be divided?

(b) 6

(c) 12

(d) 5

The question was asked by my college professor while I was bunking the class.

My question is from Plane Scales in division Scales of Engineering Drawing

Right answer is (c) 12

Explanation: Given that the plain scale is to be made with feet and inches. Generally, 1st part is divided into sub-divisions here is inches. We know 1 feet is equal to 12 inches, so 1st division should be divided into 12 sub-divisions.
