If a diagonal scale is to be made with a yard, feet and inch then, how many divisions it has to be made vertically?

(a) 3

(b) 12

(c) 10

(d) 6

I got this question during an interview.

My doubt stems from Diagonal Scales topic in division Scales of Engineering Drawing

The correct answer is (b) 12

To elaborate: Vertical divisions are related to how many inches take a foot. It is 12. Or anywhere in the diagonal scales vertical division are dependent of 2nd and 3rd unit which we use in drawing diagonal scale.
