A regular cone is placed such that axis is perpendicular to H.P and the section plane is inclined to axis and parallel to one of the generator then the section will be ___________

(a) ellipse

(b) hyperbola

(c) parabola

(d) triangle

I got this question in an interview for internship.

My query is from Sections of Cones in division Section of Solids of Engineering Drawing

Right choice is (c) parabola

To explain: If a regular cone is been cut by plane which is inclined to axis of cone and cutting all generators then the section formed will be ellipse and if section plane is inclined with axis with angle less than half of the angle between the slanting ends then section formed is a parabola.
