A cylinder is been cut by a plane parallel to axis the section will be ________

(a) parabola

(b) circle

(c) rectangle

(d) ellipse

This question was posed to me in an interview for job.

The origin of the question is Sections of Cylinders topic in division Section of Solids of Engineering Drawing

Correct answer is (c) rectangle

To explain: Cylinder is formed by rotating the rectangle about one of its sides which is said to axis further. So if the cutting plane is parallel to axis the section formed is rectangle and if plane is perpendicular to axis it gives circle.
